Scepter'd Isle Rose No.2

This is a very special rose for me; it was a weddding present given to us in August 2020 for our lockdown marriage (third attempt!). To me it symbolises faith and hope, triumph over adversity. Besides the sentimental meaning of the plant, I was drawn to paint all those beautiful petals which created a goblet shape. The complex network of overlapping petals and the almost luminescent red pink in the heart of the rose as it emerges from the gold and black background create contrast which also reminds me of the highs and lows of lockdown and that there are often silver linings if we look hard enough.
