Jamie Oldham

Jamie lives in Cumbria, close to the Solway Coast. He often takes a pochard box on his bike with him and paints small studies of the local landscape. Some of these he then works up into larger paintings back in the studio.

He has created a body of work of British birds, which are more detailed, almost character paintings of these beautiful creatures.

Jamie loves working with different media such as acrylic, oil and cold wax and sometimes gold leaf.

He shows his paintings in London and Cumbrian Galleries as well as being a member of the Lake Artists Society.

I popped in to the @scargallery23 with these three new paintings to replace some paintings that have already sold! The sunset over the solway is 92 x 122 cm or 3 ft by 4 ft, it’s a biggy!

Here’s a quick study from this morning looking towards Criffel. It was blinking cold! I thought ah the suns out I don’t need my fisherman’s trouser, how wrong I was!

Very many thanks to Lorraine and all the @ScarGallery23 for hosting a wonderful opening night! It was great to be back in Ravenstonedale, where I went to primary school, and catch up with many dear friends. The exhibition of work by me, and @davidcemmick , will be on until Sunday 27 April (the Scar Gallery is open Thursday to Sunday). Hope you’ll be able to pop in if you’re in the area and let me know what you think!

It’s a beautiful morning today, I’m just back from painting on the beach, it felt like a spring morning with so many skylarks singing above.

We’ll be painting on the old A66 road near Keswick this coming Saturday from 10 till 12.30, the weather looks good too! Be great to see you there.

These are just back from the framers today and will be heading to the @scargallery23 next week which opens on March the 8th. With @davidcemmick too!! Very exciting!

I was painting with @lynatno1 today near the edge of Bassenthwaite lake, it was pretty raw out there but worked on two studies of the same view. Which were fun but blumming cold!

I had a fun if a bit cold time painting with @lynatno1 and @gerard.pape.54 painting near Bassenthwaite lake. I did one longer painting then two quick studies

I was painting near Sedbergh last Friday, just trying to get the feel of a wintry blowy morning below Baugh fell

It was a really good morning painting and teaching with these folks at Eycott Hill. Was beautiful weather with not too much wind. My easel didn’t blow down either! Here’s a short Timelapse from this morning’s painting, it gives a bit of an idea how I start a painting. It was supposed to be much longer but my phone ran out of storage. So I’ve lots of deleting to do at some point. Hope you have a good day.

I’m just back from painting, it was a beautiful morning with lovely low light. I did a video demo but my phone ran out of storage so may just post a timelapse later of where the video got to.

This Saturday I will be teaching a group of participants ‘en plein air’ at Eycott Hill nature reserve near Penrith, there are still a few spaces are available. This was this afternoon’s painting looking towards Criffel with snow on. It started lovely and still and warm in the sun. But got a bit chilly later

Here’s a quick study this evening of some fast clouds building and disappearing just before the sun left us for this evening.

It was a very frosty morning today, and first time out painting since Christmas, I loved the low light and frosted blues in shadow. I met @lgharrison231 who took this great atmospheric shot of me painting with Criffel and the Solway in the background.

I’ve been working on this large painting 4 foot by 3 foot canvas in oils before Christmas. Really enjoying it, just letting it settle. Sunset over the Solway
