This wintery painting of yew berries is on mountboard with mixed media taken from a photo I took in a rural and historic Sussex churchyard on a grey rainy day visiting my wife's aunt. I was drawn to the image and interested by the use of shape, contrast, mark making, colour, which was inspired by both botanical and Japanese paintings, I love the suggestion of something emerging from the darkness - the unknown, and forming in front of us, with a sense of development and change while we patiently wait and observe.
